Newsletter July 2009

This is the first of our bi-monthly newsletters which are intended to bring you club news in brief.

There have been several shows over the last two or three months including Pencoed and Stoneleigh.

Pencoed
The Pencoed show on May 10th was blessed yet again with good weather (almost too hot!) and very well attended with a huge number of cars of all descriptions and numerous other exhibits. I spent most of the day be led around by John-Paul, my Grandson, who showed considerable skill for his age (3years) correctly identifying various cars from Minis to Subaru Imprezas although Toyotas are still ‘Toymotors’ according to him. I was so busy having to follow him around that I didn’t get to see the cars I wanted to!
Tony won the Best Kit Car in show which was a surprise! Well done Tony, it’s getting to be a regular win.
My only criticism of the show is that club stands are not reserved, there were a number of our club member’s cars in different places around the show ground but we didn’t meet up during the day.  The only way for us to be together would be by meeting up before hand and arriving together which is not always possible. Having said that, it is a very good show though and one that should be on our list to attend.

Stoneleigh
Hello campers!  Well, there were four in all on the site in the end.  As you know, we book into the Lodge and, as it was quite cold in the evenings, we were very glad we had done so.
I must say, though, that this is one of the best times we have had at Stoneleigh.  We took our gas barbecue up and it was put to good use on the site.  Stoneleigh is just a little bit too far for our kit car but the club was well represented and a lot of members came up just for the day on Saturday and Sunday to swell the numbers.

It was a great start to the season, the weather was dry and the days were fine.  There were the usual exhibits, which make this show one of the best in the season and well worth attending.  There did not seem to be as many participants as on previous years but there was still a lot to see and do.

John managed to fit the clubhouse into the Hawke and I must say that seeing the Hawke finished was a sight well worth waiting for.  She is an absolutely beautiful example of a kit car, in fact, she won best in show on the Hawke stand – a fantastic achievement for her first outing at a show and very well deserved.  I think John might have struggled to pack everything up, as he had such a large trophy to take back!

For those who have never been to Stoneleigh, this is definitely a show which should not be missed and, if camping is not your scene, then you can always stay in the hostel or in the Lodge.  We did think that perhaps members might like to book into the Lodge and perhaps we could save something each month to help towards the cost.  If anyone is interested in doing this, then please contact Phil or Dave and we will organise something.  Just to let you know, you will need to contact the Lodge and book in by leaving your credit card details – information about the Lodge is on the Internet or, if you prefer, just let us know and we will pass on the telephone number.  You can cancel up to 2 weeks before the show and will not be charged a cancellation fee.
Hope you decide to go next year – Stoneleigh gets the kit car season off to a great start and let’s hope that it is the beginning of a great summer.
